Affordable housing development in the Canadian municipalities of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon is now guided by the Affordable Housing Active Design Guidelines and Standards adopted in the Region of Peel in 2014. The Affordable Housing Active Design Guidelines and Standards was created by a Peel Region Working Group involving multiple government departments that included Human Services, Health Services, Corporate Services, Real Property Asset Management, and Public Works, with supports from consultants and advisors with previous experience on this work such as Dr. Karen Lee, others from NYC Departments of City Planning and Transportation, the Trust for Public Land and the Food Trust in the U.S.
